MISSION STATEMENT

From A Point Of Light To An Eternal Flame…Nourishing Body And Soul

Former President Bush knew what we all knew -- that Richard Hassell was a "Point of Light." In 1990, President Bush appointed Mr. Hassell one of his "1,000 Points of Light," and that light continues to shine today.

The Richard Hassell Foundation provides for the immediate
and urgent, basic human needs of individuals and families who have momentarily “fallen through the cracks” of other social organizations. By providing timely shelter, food, clothing, and spiritual guidance during moments of personal crises, and by providing information on various organizations within the individual’s community that can help with long-term solutions, it is the intent of the Richard Hassell Foundation to sustain the recipient until such time as long-term help can be administered.

This mission, based on Richard Hassell’s philosophy of ACTION - NOT WORDS, will administer to the recipient’s immediate needs in a nurturing, Christian way. It will also ensure that the individual’s self-esteem and self-confidence are enhanced through close contact with a caring and dedicated representative from the Richard Hassell Foundation Advisory Board.

After the initial involvement of the Richard Hassell Foundation gift, recipients will be encouraged to seek guidance, support, and relief from churches and community organizations in their area that are set up for the express purposes of administering to such needs while preparing individuals for the responsibilities and challenges of their future. In doing so, each member of the Richard Hassell Foundation Board hopes the recipients of grants, gifts, and aid from the Foundation will quickly experience relief from their immediate plight, and will become aware and involved with the community in which they live, thus fulfilling the ultimate goal of the Foundation . . return self-sufficient, responsible citizens back into our community.

We believe that the resource and networking mission of the Richard Hassell Foundation Board is a cooperative endeavor among a diverse body of dedicated friends, family members, and organizations who together embark on a “Call to Action” personally set in motion by Richard Hassell, himself.
